Asatru is one of the world's fastest growing religions. Based on Nordic Mythology and well over 20,000 years old, Asatru is once again a vibrant living organisation.
Although having flourished for centuries in central and northern Europe, Asatru was almost wiped out by the spread of Christianity from the middle East. A devoted few continued to practice the religion, culture and philosophy of their forebears, often is secret to avoid persecution and today the religion re-embarks on a journey of rediscovery and continued development.
Asatru is a real, tangible and positive alternative to existing religions which most people have either adopted by birth or to which they are tied via cultural conditioning.
Asatru is not only the world's oldest religion, it is also the indigenous religion of Europe, in particular of people of Germanic, Nordic, or Anglo Saxon origin.
As can be expected from a religion of ancient pedegry, Asatru has a rich cultural history, deep philosophical grounding, a tremendous tie to nature, respects gender equality and principles of justice.
Deities of Asatru, including Othin, Freija, Ostara, Thor and Loki are considered both as allegorical and inspirational figures, as well as natural kin to the adherants of Asatru. There is no fear mongering in Asatru, no dogma which interferes with natural law or family duties, and best of all, the faith of Asatru celebrates the life around us, the equinoxes and solstices of the real world, not a fictional or historical event.
